In primary and secondary schools, children can learn about World War II.
Making gas masks is a very interesting lesson, even for parents with homework.
Depending on the ability of your class, depending on how detailed the instructions you need are, but here's what you need to do yourself so you know what you need to show the kids.
The next step is to give your child instructions on how to do it on their own.
This is a mask that is easy to make, so even young children can do it, or those with lower abilities.
You need anything to decorate it.
First of all, you need to take an A4 card.
This piece should be folded in half along the shortest edge of the rectangle.
Cut along this fold to form a long and thin rectangle.
Keep the other piece to finish the cylinder a little.
Mark a faint line, starting 1 cm from each narrow edge.
Cut off one of these weak lines.
The other one should be cut in half!
So they are the opposite.
Once completed, fold the card to form the shape of the cylinder.
The two slit should be able to be slotted together so that it can remain stationary without any further fixing.
However, to make it safer, putting a little tape inside the cylinder at the top of the slit will make it safer.
Note: If you are using this cylinder to draw the next part, skip the ninth part above.
On the other half of the card you put on one side, draw a circle slightly larger than the cylinder you just made.
I 've found that drawing around sellotape is the ideal size for this, but as long as it's about 1 cm larger than the cylinder you make, then this allows you to make flaps to fix it. Cut it out.
After you finish, you need to cut some labels on it.
This should be done by cutting the rotation direction of the circle into a center of about 1 cm in length.
Note: they don't have to be too accurate because we will cover it up. 5.
You can then decorate this circle at the end of the gas mask.
It's better to do it now, because it requires a lot of detail, and if you want to try to do it while making it, you'll find the cylinder collapsing. 6.
Then you need to open the flaps. 7.
Using masking tape, tape the flap at the end of the cylinder.

First of all, you should put them flat on the table.
Next you need to divide it into three equal parts.
You only need two of them, but if you do this as a class, then you can give tax cuts to students who don't have to do this on their own, so there is no waste.
They should then be reopened into a cylinder shape.
Once you have two cylinders of the same size, you should cut the flaps at the top.
This needs to be done by reducing 1 cm from the top.
The flaps should then be folded and ready to be fixed on the face mask.
Extension: you can get some tracing drawings and use them for the lens of the goggles, but this will prevent the kids from seeing it well.
You need a third card now.
Put it on the scenery on the table.
This should be folded in half again, but this time along the longest side, a rectangle is formed like you are making a birthday card.
Keep it in a vertical position, and the left is the edge of the fold.
Starting at 2 out of 3 below the fold edge, you need to draw a half heart shape.
So, bend your line to the top of the card before working down to the bottom left corner.
Cut out the half heart shape and open the card to reveal the complete heart shape.
This is the easy part.
Simply draw the nose shape on a spare card first.
Make sure you have a small apartment near 1 cm by 1 cm. And cut it off.
The easiest way to start is to cut the mask to where the goggles and cylinders are needed.
Place the goggles in the position of the eye and draw a circle on the outside of the goggles.
Then you need to cut off these circles.
To do this, you should push a pair of scissors to the center of the circle that makes the hole.
You can then cut the side of the scissors through the hole and around the circle.
Check if the toilet roll is appropriate and put it aside until you are ready to protect everything. 5.
Once this is done, you should place the cylinder at the bottom of the mask and make sure it's around the child's mouth. 6.
Then cut this out so you lose the bottom of your heart. 7.
Then you can get everything done.
Push Google through the hole with flaps on the back of the mask.
Then fix the flaps with sellotape. 8.
The cylinder should then be fixed in place.
This can be done using a series of flaps that can be cut into the cylinder like goggles and fixed down using sellotape.
Alternatively, masking tape can be used around the joint.
If you fix anything to the front then you should use masking tape so you can decorate it on it and sellotape will make it impossible or at least very difficult. 9.
The last part is to protect the nose.
This can be done by applying tape to the flap you made, or you can stick it down with glue.
The picture above is a child's gas mask.
It is called the Mickey Mouse mask, trying to make it more popular with children.
However, the design is basically the same and the color is red, which makes it seem a little better for the kids.
It's still uncomfortable to wear and stuffy, but maybe you can get your class to design their own masks and try to make it better for the kids to wear.

This will be a simple adjustment to the nose part and also a very simple black paint job.
Making a gas mask is a good first lesson.

After you describe it to the students, they can even give their own instructions.
This set of instructions and finished gas masks can then be used for a wonderful presentation.
Use this as the basis for homework.
Let the children study the appearance of gas masks in World War II.
They can then use this as the basis for lesson 3.
After the mask is finished, you can decorate it with an art class.
This can be achieved in many ways.
The easiest way is to simulate how they decorate it in some way and then they start.
Another way is to list the resource tables and let the kids go and create what they're working on.
Note: a great way to make the paint look old is to paint it, then when it dries, add a thin layer of glue on it and paint again.
The thinner the coating, the smaller the crack will be.
The paint will then crack naturally and produce a good old look.
It is an easy thing to use it as a prop in a theatrical activity.
Maybe let them perform a short scene, but then use the freezeframe to see how their characters will feel.
This can then be used to help them write such a scene.
Use this in DT classes.
They can design and create a gas mask box for their model.
They should look at the instructions on how to wear a gas mask.
The design of the box makes it easy to carry and open, but still safe enough so it can carry the mask well.
Use it for literacy classes
Let the children wear masks at the beginning of the lesson and play the sounds of the war, such as air strikes alerts, bomb explosions.
If you can do this in the dark then it will add to the drama.
The second half of the course may be that they write down how it feels when this happens.
Their thoughts and what they can see during this time.
