787 Dreamliner or nightmare-Boeing is facing a crisis in the past few weeks and we have read about the problems with Boeing's new governmentof –the-787th, which caused the FAA to "stop flying" the entire fleet of the new aircraft.The center of the storm is focused on the new lithium-787 ion batteries used in the building.This quickly turned into a nightmare for Boeing's leadership team.While they need to work in a "time critical" mode, they don't want to rush to find an incomplete or partial solution.Future revenue, the trust of customers (those who buy aircraft) and the ability to restore traveler confidence are key issues.Over time, every business-large or small, public or private-faces many crises that are directly at the heart of the company's strategy.It is often said that the ability to lead a team is tested during a crisis.In my leadership and executive coaching role, I spent quite a bit of time discussing strategic leadership with my clients and how it affects the way they deal with the crisis.From my client work to events as a business speaker, to personal experience dealing with crisis management, I have created a simple 10 point inventory guide to help you manage your crisis successfully.Keep in mind that every crisis is different and this guide will be used to develop your initial track.Use it and expand it to meet your needs.For more information, be sure to step up.10-point inventory guide for managing crises successfully so, what can you do to manage crises effectively?Here are some of the steps I have learned and used that will provide you with a running track: 1.Stop bleeding quickly.Start working to minimize the disruptive impact it has on your operations, services, and customers.2.Assess the loss and understand the facts.Ask the right person so you can separate the confusion and fiction from reality.3.With a better grasp of the relevant facts, you are now in a great position to eliminate rumors (rumors are always in crisis) and communicate the next steps.4.There is no time for emotions, excuses, or blame.The original goal is to understand the real reason.5.Start setting expectations and responsibility for initial tasks in your team.The goal is to keep the team focused on stabilizing the situation.Make sure to ask the team for advice and help you set realistic deadlines for completing these initial tasks.6.Don't forget "Murphy's law "."You know, if something goes wrong.In the crisis, Murphy was 10 times more likely to show up.To solve this problem, try to keep your plan clear and updated;High quality communication and quick action are required when new surprises arise.7.Seen and Heard.It is important that your team sees you as their leader.You want to make sure you get 100% understanding and purchaseComplete the work in your team.8.With the return of normality, start to identify things that you will do differently.What makes it possible for you to prevent a crisis, or deal with it faster and more effectively?Incorporate those most meaningful findings into the systems and procedures in your business.Make sure your entire team understands the changes and is trained to perform them appropriately.9.Acknowledge the hard work of your team during the crisis.Do what you have to do and prove to them that you really appreciate their efforts.Help them learn from experience so they will be better next time.10.And, please rest assured, there will be next time.How you deal with a crisis can distinguish between success and failure in your personal and professional life.You may not be as big as Boeing and face the same PR review, but keep in mind that your customers have a powerful instant social media and blog communication tool.Your crisis may not be as big as a jet, but it will definitely damage your business and bottom --line.Take the time to prepare a crisis plan in advance so that once something goes wrong, you will have a clear and concise path to action.Chris Ruisi-author, executive leadership coach, founder of stand up and play big.
